The Roatan International Catch and Release Fishing Tournament is held annually each year in September. The Tournament is an IGFA Offshore World Championship Qualifying Event.
The 4 day event is the leading fishing tournament in Roatan and the Bay Islands. The event attracts local and internationally fisherman who are attracted to Roatan's amazing fishing. With fishing waters located only minutes from the island's shoreline this guarantees easily accessible world class fishing. The Roatan International Catch and Release Fishing Tournament also offers a variety of other community events including live music, local food and a street carnival in West End.
In 2011, the Fishermen Association of Roatan became a member of the IGFA (International Game Fish Association), who certified and approved the ANNUAL ROATAN INTERNATIONAL FISHING TOURNAMENT. Since 2010, this annual tournament has been a CATCH AND RELEASE event which is very important for the protection and preservation of the billfish population.
Once again, as last year, we not only will promote international, national and local tourism, but part of the proceeds from the Tournament will be donated to:
• Little Friends Foundation
This foundation was formed by a group of concerned islanders to improve the health care system of the island.
• Bay Islands Coastal Clean Up
This organization was formed to help clean our coastal areas with the effort to raise awareness of the importance of good environmental practices.
• Roatan’s Lions Club
This organization is an International nonprofit Organization whose slogan is “We Serve.” Developing local projects based on Education and Health. (They will be the Administrators of the donation to execute a Health Project for the Roatan Public Hospital).
