Utila's elevation reaches only 75 meters above sea level, with the highest point being Pumpkin Hill. Since this is such a flat island it makes the trip up to Pumpkin Hill quite satisfactory.
The dirt road to reach the viewpoint at Pumpkin Hill is rough on a good day, and during rainy season, purely mud and puddles. But with the right vehicle or even by foot, it is possible to make the trip. After reaching the limit of the road, you must continue the rest of the way through a narrow, lush path. Even if this is a bit difficult and very much off the beaten path, the reward is astonishing.
The view form the top is unparalleled and unique. You get a 360 degree view of the island, both North and South shores. If you are lucky and the skies are clear you will also get to appreciate the mountain ranges on the nearby mainland.
